The torana part is in the shape of an archway. In the centre, Garuda, the legendary part-eagle part-human creature, guardian of the Dharma, with spreaded wings, surrounded by two nagini richly adorned. Nagini are half-human half-snake spirits who guard an enchanted underworld. They are also often associated with bodies of waters — including rivers, lakes, seas, and wells — and are guardians of treasures. Buddha Shakyamuni make them the keepers of spiritual treasures. In the lower part of the torana, on each side, there are two kinnari. These are celestial musicians, part human and part bird. All the characters, in high relief repoussé, on a heavily decorated ground with stylized scrolls. The torana beautifully gilted and with a nice age patina.
