Description

The Buddha Amitayus seated in vajrasana on a double-lotus pedestal, his hands holding a kalasha vase, wearing a dhoti with geometric motifs trim, adorned with numerous jewels with incrustations of hardstones, crowned with a finely-worked diadem, The hair is topped by a jewel, ribbons and locks falling on the shoulders, the face framed by big earrings, eyes half-closed, a benevolent expression, the base sealed with a double vajra pattern. Amitayus (“Infinite Life”) is considered an emanation of the Buddha Amithaba, the Buddha of Pure Land. Amitayus is invoked in practices relating to longevity and preventing an untimely death. He is particularly popular in China and Tibet.
