A jadeite “lingzhi” pendant

Description

The rectangular pendant with rounded angles, carved on both sides. One side, with five lingzhi fungus. The other side, is decorated with a mythical animal among the fungus. The pendant is necely carved, with many engraved details. The stone of light colour, with vivid emerald green parts, is shiny and softly polished.

The lingzhi or « immortality fungus » is a motif found in every medium of Chinese art. It has great medical qualities and it is believed to be the food of immortals. It has become, throught the age, a symbol of longevity. It is a very auspicious motif in Chinese iconography.
