A « monkey with peaches » celadon jade figure

Description

The monkey depicted with the legs slightly fold down, holding a sprig of peaches above its shoulder, the head nicely carved. The jade with a pale celadon hue and nice polish. 

The association of monkey and peaches recall the famous character of the 16th century novel “Journey to the West” (西游记Xiyouji), the monkey king Sun Wukong who eats all the peaches of immortality of Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West. The depiction of monkey and peaches is an offering of longevity.
